Description

And where do the scattered boulders of different rocks in the landscape come from? The solution leads to glaciers, rivers, and even the seabed.

After Weinfelden, the route first follows the Thur. Shortly before Märstetten, you reach the Wistereweiher, a nice spot for a picnic. However, the pond exists only because gravel was previously mined below the groundwater level. After a short climb, you reach the erratic boulder garden near Schwaderloh. These were once transported like a conveyor belt by glaciers from Graubünden to the Alpine foothills.

Next, the route goes across the Seerücken and then along a former glacier tongue through the Seebach valley. The lakes in this valley are also relics of the former glacier. Finally, the route joins the High Rhine. As the last highlights, there is a pit of marine sand at Unterschlatt and the impressive Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen as the route's destination.
