Description
The Geo-Route is a circular hiking route. Starting in Schönholzerswilen, the path leaves the village westwards. A detour to the Bruderloch is worthwhile: The legendary cave has attracted adventurous children and adults for generations. Then the creek is crossed in the wooded Itobel and you arrive at Hagenbuch.
Along the Furtbach, the route continues north and into a forest. This offers a view of the Altegg, an impressive pit where clay is extracted for bricks and building blocks. Then follows Mettlen and the Moos, a raised bog and nature reserve inhabited by rare dragonflies, reed warblers, and beavers.
Via the hamlets Metzgersbuhwil and Hintermühle, the path leads to the remains of the ancestral castle of the barons of Wunnenberg. Finally, the route returns via Immenberg to Schönholzerswilen.
