Gentle heights – hospitable houses

From Tavannes station, head south towards the source of the Birs and continue towards Pierre Pertuis. A forest path now leads steeply up to the high pasture of Le Grimm, then on a grassy track to the cabin (Montoz hut). The view of the villages Tavannes, Loveresse, and Reconvilier and the somewhat more distant Le Fuet, Bellelay, and Tramelan is impressive. The Métairie de Werdt, with its magnificent view of the Chasseral range, the Seeland and the Alps, is reached through a forest strip. Via the Métairie de Malleray, you reach the northern ridge of Montoz and the SAC hut La Rochette, very close to the highest point of Montoz (1327 m). The continuation of the hike promises a special pleasure: over pastures it goes past the agricultural mountain farms Bergerie de Bévilard, Montagne de Sorvilier, and La Bergerie to Pré Richard. The proximity of the language boundary is evident in the double names of the farms. Now an asphalt lane leads past the farm La Bluée (Tiefmatt) to the other flank of the ridge and to Längschwang. Here, turn south and reach Untergrenchenberg.
