Description

On cycle route No. 9 from Gstaad to Rougemont stay on the main road and pass Château-d'Oex quickly thanks to the good road surface and mostly slight downhill gradient. Only shortly after Les Moulins leave the main road to the left to follow No. 9 again. Continue on the varied secondary road until shortly before Montbovon. For the first time, there are some bumpy spots and lonely sections. At the junction at the entrance to Montbovon turn left towards Allières and the climb begins. The higher the road goes, the lonelier, more beautiful, but also rougher the route becomes. Despite the natural impressions, concentration on the road is required. Soon you ride through a lonely alpine valley and finally see the dam of Lac Hongrin. In a hairpin bend, you go up to the short tunnel at dam height and have thus completed the main part of the ascent. Along the beautifully located lake, it goes on a concrete slab track of the Swiss army to La Lécherette. The best opportunity to let your gaze wander and enjoy the scenery. In La Lécherette, a long and beautiful descent towards Château-d'Oex begins on a good road surface, making you forget the "Hell of the West". On the way back to Gstaad, it is worth following No. 9 through the villages and maybe even stopping for a coffee.
