Description

The first highlight of this hike is also the highest point: the Lueg, an impressive viewpoint. From the Lueg monument there, which was erected in 1921, a fantastic view opens up over the gentle rolling hills of the Emmental to the Bernese Alps. From the monument, follow the yellow signpost towards Junkholz and Affoltern. The path alternates between forest, meadow, and asphalt sections. Along the way, hikers admire the beautiful Emmental farmhouses, children enjoy the cats, chickens, and horses, and in numerous farm shops, regional products can be purchased directly from the producers.

The Emmental show dairy is one of the best-known excursion destinations in the region and offers interesting insights into the production of the famous Emmental AOP – both by modern and traditional methods. On the premises, there are four cheese buildings from different eras: the Küherstock (1741), the Chäshütte (1900), the old village dairy (1954) and the modern show dairy (1989). At the show dairy, milk processing takes place in highly modern facilities, while at the Küherstock the "Stöcklikäse" is still made by hand according to traditional methods. The Chäshütte and the old village dairy still house the historic cheese-making equipment. During guided tours, visitors learn how the holes get into the cheese. In addition, there is a cheese specialty shop, a bakery, a petting zoo with dwarf goats, a cheese playground, and many other attractions.
