Description
The hike from Splügen in the Rhine forest over the Saumpass Safierberg to Turrahus in the Safiental is in the area of the Beverin Nature Park, where the ibex is at home. With a bit of luck, you may come across the capricorn on the Safierberg or spot it on the rock faces of the Alperschällihora.
From Splügen, the hiking trail leads steeply up to Gadastatt and on across the alpine meadows to Stutzalp. The trail climbs over the Stutzbach stream up to the Safierberg. The rather steep descent into the Safiental valley zigzags along mountain paths via Ziprian to Bodaälpli and on to Piggamad on alpine paths. Turrahus, at the very back of the Safiental, is soon reached.
From Turrahus, the PostBus runs via Thalkirch, Safien Platz and Tenna to Versam. Timetable and further information at sbb.ch.
Any hiking trail closures/restrictions or detour can be found here.
Tip Take the hiking bus from Splügen to Stutzalp and save a few meters in altitude:
