Description
The hike starts at Lucerne station and leads over the lake bridge to the edge of the historic old town. Along Schweizerhofquai, the path leads to the pavilion. At the pavilion level, cross the street and then head up to the splendid Hofkirche St. Leodegar. A visit to the church is worthwhile.
Along the lakeshore
Leave the church grounds at the back and walk leisurely down to Adligenswilerstrasse until you reach the lake shore again. You stroll along the lake past the nostalgic lakeside bath to the Swiss Museum of Transport. After the museum's parking lot, a path leads uphill along the stream to Würzenbachstrasse. From here, it goes up to Büttenen and then down towards Seeburg. Take a break at the charming English cemetery and enjoy the tranquility. Continue over beautiful green meadows back to the lake. Now, the path leads along the heavily trafficked Seeburgstrasse towards Meggen. At the height of Hotel Hermitage, you can leave the main street. A beautiful hiking trail then takes you to Meggenhorn Castle.
Like in Rio de Janeiro
A small detour takes you almost to Brazil. In front of the castle entrance, a small circular path leads down to the miniature version of the Christ the Redeemer statue from Rio de Janeiro. After the walk, you reach the vineyards below the castle. Now the hiking trail leads toward Meggen, through a wonderfully quiet residential area with fine houses. After a while, you reach the lake again and a cozy bathing spot.
Now you face a choice. Either return to Lucerne by boat, train, or bus.
