Description
The Tanzbödeli is not a down-to-earth disco but a viewpoint in the rear Lauterbrunnen valley. The path up is steep. Instead of dancing shoes, good sole grip is required.
From Gimmelwald, first go down to the Sefinenlütchine valley, then steeply upwards to Alp Busen. At point 1977, a narrow path branches off from the main path and leads to the Tanzbödeli. The place lives up to its name: The flat, grass-covered plateau would have been suitable for a few lively pirouettes at least in old times. However, the plateau drops steeply all around. So it is better to stay quietly and enjoy the magnificent view.
The descent back to the junction is on the same path. From there, continue to the Berghotel Obersteinberg. The surrounding Alp Obersteinberg is a landscape gem of the first order and was therefore awarded the cultural landscape prize of the Oberland East region in 2011. About one sixth of the soil surface is considered dry meadows or dry pastures of national importance. These zones show a particularly large variety of plants and attract many insects accordingly. Via Wilde Egge, Schiirboden, and Trachsellauenen, it goes down to Stechelberg.
