Description

Upon arriving in Burgdorf, we are enchanted by the view. Above us towers the castle on a rock overlooking the town, and before us rise the distinctive sandstone formations of the Gysnauflüe, which stretch up on the right bank of the Emme. These Gysnauflüe and the former Zähringer fortress are landmarks of the town, which can be wonderfully connected on this family-friendly discovery route.

From the station, we first go down to the Emme and the Waldegg Bridge. After crossing the bridge and the river, we climb up the Waldegghole and thus reach the Gysnauflüe nature reserve directly. The hiking trail winds from one rock formation to the next through the forest and offers children numerous discoveries: lizards hiding under old roots, mushrooms inviting amazement, and from the first rock platform a beautiful view of the town and the castle. Another adventure awaits us with the steep descent to the Bartholomew Chapel, which formerly served as a chapel for lepers who had to live outside the city walls. Today, the chapel is a place for services, weddings, and concerts. Across the Wynige Bridge, we return to the Emme and from there stroll back leisurely to Burgdorf station.
