Best Time of Year
Description
Küttigen is rich in landscape jewels in the form of species-rich meadows. Many of these are listed in the national inventory of dry meadows and pastures and are therefore among the "top meadows of Switzerland." From the start of the path, species-rich, colorful semi-dry meadows with bird's-foot trefoil, meadow sage, and petitespignel line the way. About halfway through the stroll lies a rest area at the edge of a purple moor-grass pine forest, ideal for relaxing in the shade and observing the common columbine, warted spurge, or knobbly thistle. The route continues through fescue meadows and beech forests to the Horen castle ruins and Kirchberg, two more places with interesting flora. The last section finally leads along the Aare River to the end of the hike.
The Flower Walks app makes it possible to learn about over 1000 wild plant species and around 80 habitats on numerous botanical excursions throughout Switzerland. The app can be installed on the phone and then used offline. During the excursion, only the location function needs to be activated.
