Farm Garden Bike Route Oberthurgau

On the "Farm Garden Route Oberthurgau," five very different farm gardens are showcased. Mostly located directly next to beautiful timber-framed houses, traditional farm gardens contribute to the charm of the hilly green landscape on the Swiss Lake Constance.

Farm gardens are usually surrounded by a low hedge or fence and combine the cultivation of vegetables, fruit, and herbs with ornamental plants such as summer flowers, perennials, and shrubs.

The creation of combined ornamental and utility gardens has a centuries-old tradition in Switzerland. The impulses mostly came from monastic establishments. The gardeners there passed on their knowledge and cuttings of their plants to the farmers' wives on surrounding farms.
