Description
At the Heggidorn bus stop, walk a few steps south and then change direction gently uphill to the west. About ten minutes later, the turnoff to the Lediflue viewpoint follows. You shouldn’t miss this small detour: the view of the Bernese Pre-Alps and Alps is splendid. On pleasant, varied paths, it goes through forest and across fields and meadows first to the small village of Allenlüften, then gently descending to the hamlet of Schnurenmüli. Were it not for the nearby Bern-Neuchâtel railway line, one could feel transported back to earlier times given the rural idyll. Alternately through forest and open terrain, it goes somewhat above the railway embankment through the Flühbach valley heading west. After crossing the railway at the former Rüplisried-Mauss station, you stand in front of the Flühelemill. It dates from 1870 and is the only surviving one of many mills that once operated in the municipality of Mühleberg (and gave it its name). After one last short descent, you reach the Saane river. On a varied riverside path, it now goes through a beautiful floodplain landscape past the wastewater treatment plant and the confluence of the Saane and Sense rivers towards Laupen. The small town has a pretty medieval core. The scene at Läubliplatz is particularly picturesque. The magnificent castle complex is considered a symbol of the region and is a national heritage site.
