Description

From the Engelberg train station, the trail leads through the village, past the Engelberg monastery, towards the valley station of the Fürenalp cable car station. On the Herrenrütistrasse it goes steadily uphill further into the valley. After about 1.5km the surface changes to gravel and leads past the restaurant Alpenrösli, famous for its rösti and desserts, to the cable car Stäfeli-Äbnet. If you like it more comfortable, you can now take the cable car up to Äbnet/Alp Surenen. The ride takes a good three minutes and takes you up to the alp 300 meters higher. Alternatively, you can also go up by muscle power: at the Alp Stäfeli the gravel road leads away to the right and crosses the Stierenbach. From there on the right side of the valley goes up and down the gravel road, in front of the flanks of the Spannörter and past the waterfall Stäuber, left away in the direction of Alp Surenen.

Arrived at the Alp Surenen, a unique panorama with Titlis, Schlossberg as well as the large and small Spannort offers itself. The right time for a break. Various delicacies from the alp are available in the Alpbeizli Surenen and in the sales store of the Alpkäserei Surenen, right next door.

Back to Engelberg we go in the direction of the Stäuber waterfall and from there along the gravel road in the direction of Stäfeli. The trail now leads, in the direction of travel, along the left side of the Stierenbach stream in the direction Engelberg.
