Altdorf is located on a steep slope. Erosion and rockfall shape the landscape in the so-called Altdorfer Bannwald. Only thanks to the forest could the settlements on the slopes develop. Today, humans must build protective structures here and there. Due to climate change, the danger of rockfalls and landslides is increasing. The educational trail shows on one hand how the forest protects the village of Altdorf, on the other hand we experience impressively that the inhabitants would constantly be at risk if humans did not intervene with structural and forestry measures.

The educational trail is suitable for children from 7 years old. Take the opportunity to stop at Nussbäumli. Here you have a comprehensive view over the village of Altdorf. The children can use the playground, and we enjoy the magnificent panoramic view over the Reuss valley.
