Description

Starting point of the winter hike is the valley station of the Schatzalpbahn. From there it goes up to the Hohe Promenade and then in large hairpin bends on the Thomas Mann Path, on the sunny side of Davos, through snow-covered forests up to the historic Schatzalp. The writer Thomas Mann set a literary monument to Davos with his novel "The Magic Mountain". Five years after the novel was published, the author was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, which made his entire work immortal. The terraces on Schatzalp, where once the sanatorium patients cured their tuberculosis, are now used for sunbathing. The ambience and attitude to life in the midst of pure Art Nouveau architecture is almost as it was 100 years ago. The architecture of the sanatorium has been preserved. Deceleration is here very important. You can enjoy the peace and quiet with a magnificent view.

From Schatzalp, the winter hiking trail leads up again in a short ascent to Strela Alp. On the large sun terrace of the cosy mountain restaurant you can enjoy the fantastic alpine panorama and delicious specialities.

The way back is the same way down to Schatzalp. From Schatzalp you can decide whether to go on foot, take the Schatzalp cable car, or take the wide, well-prepared toboggan run in 18 bends through the Schatzalp enchanted forest down to Davos. Use of the toboggan run is free of charge and it is also suitable for children and beginners. Sledges can be rented at the valley station of the Schatzalp cable car.
