Description

Take the Corvatsch cable car to the middle station Murtèl at 2698 m above sea level. Already here you enjoy a beautiful view over the Engadin lake plateau. Those who want to see the fabulous panoramic view far over the Upper Engadin mountain world take the cable car to the Corvatsch mountain station at 3303 m. The hike begins at the Murtèl middle station. On a wide path you reach Fuorcla Surlej in about 45 minutes, where a spectacular view of the Bernina massif opens up. You look into a vast arena of ice and rock, with Piz Tschierva, Piz Morteratsch, Piz Bernina with the famous Biancograt, Piz Roseg and the Sella group in the background, surrounded by impressive glaciers. Around Fuorcla Surlej there are silent signs of the last ice age. Rounded rocks marked by the ice masses, between which small lakes formed. The actual high-altitude path begins at Fuorcla Surlej. The path leads towards the majestic glacier scenery and after about one hour of hiking you reach Plaun dals Süts, above the glacier lake Lej da Vadret. Now it goes comfortably towards the Coaz hut, which is perched on a rock ledge in close proximity to the glaciers. Strengthened by a fine, homemade barley soup, a piece of freshly baked cake or regional sausage and cheese, you climb behind the Coaz hut towards the glacier. There is much to discover: small glacier mills, minerals, pioneer plants, a glacier gate, etc. Back at the hut, it takes about 1 hour to return the same way to the second junction and from there down to the Roseg Glacier Restaurant. After refreshment at the restaurant, you can decide whether to continue the hike to Pontresina (about 1.5 hours) or to ride comfortably in the horse-drawn carriage (about 1 hour) to Pontresina.
