Description
The Chaltenbrunnen Moor near Meiringen is the best-preserved moorland area in Switzerland. It is accessible via an interesting circular hike.
The Chaltenbrunnen-Wandelalp moorland covers about one square kilometer. It shows its most beautiful side in the raised bog between Gyrensprung and Chaltenbrunnenalp. From late summer, it awaits with a magnificent color spectacle. The reed grass areas glow in red and ocher tones. Between them, stands of dwarf mountain pines set bright green accents. In countless small lakes and ponds, the deep blue sky is reflected. The moorland is accessible from the Reichenbach Valley. From Zwirgi, the route goes via Falcheren to Alp Isetwald, a charming natural ensemble of meadows, trees, and rocks. This paradisiacal spot was awarded the Cultural Landscape Prize of the Oberland-East Region in 2008. From Wandelalp, you ascend to the Chaltenbrunnen raised bog. From there, a nearly level path leads with magnificent views to the Engelhörner mountains and on to the Upper Stafel of the Chaltenbrunnenalp. For the return to Zwirgi, take the descent via Seilialp.
