Description

The circular route starts at the St. Meinrad guesthouse. It has existed for over 100 years and was rebuilt in its present form in 1759, replacing the previous wooden pilgrim house. Together with the chapel, first mentioned in the 13th century and newly built in 1698, it forms a nationally significant protected local landmark. The Jakobsweg, the famous pilgrimage route leading to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, also passes over the Etzel pass on the path between Einsiedeln and Rapperswil, providing an interesting historical context. Along this route, you will travel on historic transport routes where the path structure is still clearly visible, demonstrating that the Etzel area was an important transport and pilgrimage route from early times, where parts of the old mule track and pilgrim path construction can still be recognized today.
