Circular route Riein

Best Time of Year
Description
The route is not marked.
This area is probably one of the best snowshoeing regions in the Surselva. Wildlife and animal tracks can often be observed here. This also requires appropriate behavior towards the sensitive wildlife in winter.
The start of the route is at the upper end of the village of Riein. Shortly after the reservoir, turn right onto the wide hiking path. Then it goes up over alpine meadows, sometimes flatter, sometimes steeper. Soon you reach the homestead Cuolm Sura. There are often different tracks here and you can rest before it gets steeper towards Alp da Sevgein. Here again, a short rest on a flatter section is possible. Now it gets serious and you climb about 300 vertical meters to the Dutjer Alp. The panorama here above 2,000 meters above sea level extends over the entire Surselva down to the Alpine town of Chur and the 3,000-meter peaks of the Sardona chain. The following descent over the broad ridge to Alp da Riein is leisurely. Now you are well warmed up and can jump and slide down the slightly steeper slopes. At Darmasal, you return to the ascent route and can now comfortably hike back to Riein.
