Description
The route begins at Ämpächli at 1485m above sea level, leading over the Alp Oberämpächli-Riedmatt-Eggen-Bischofalp back to Ämpächli.
Bischofsalp is still one of the few wild hay alp areas in Switzerland. Each of the about 60 members of the corporation owns a strip of land about 20 meters wide, which extends over the entire height of the alp. This gentle but strict type of management has the great advantage that a diverse and magnificent alpine flora can develop, which is rarely found in Switzerland anymore. Impressive are the lovingly renovated "Ghaltige" of Bischofsalp, in which hay was formerly stored to provide sufficient food for the animals in winter. Some of these wooden huts are at least 300 years old, and the weathering gives the wood a very special structure and color.
