Description
The route leads along the Aare from Olten train station, across the footbridge further along the Aare towards Born. Then the ascent begins and after crossing the road, it goes steeply uphill over the Born ridge. Between the trees, there are repeated beautiful views of Olten and Aarburg with the impressive fortress. On the way, you will cross the "1000er Stägli". This is a well-known and frequently used fitness and training route, which leads from Aarburg to Born with over 1,000 steps. Shortly afterwards, after about 1 ¾ hours in total, you reach the viewpoint "Chänzeli" where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Swiss Plateau and the Alps. The path continues towards Kappel to the Born Cross, where the Born Chapel, the landmark of Kappel, can be visited. At the parking lot, the path returns to the forest (bench path) towards Olten, passing by the quarry into the Kleinholz district, into the old town of Olten and across the wooden bridge back to the train station.
Note(s) The ridge path on Born runs along a steep drop on the left side and is safe if you stay on the path. However, children must be cautioned to be careful; this hike is rather unsuitable for smaller children. The path can be slippery when wet. If the hike is done in the opposite direction, the ascent to Born is not so steep.
