Description
From Sarnen railroad station, the path leads along the railroad tracks to the hospital and on to Seefeld. In summer, the adventure pool is well worth a visit. From here, the lake trail begins and leads via Sachseln and Ewil to the former customs house in Sachseln. After a short section on the road parallel to Schwerzenbachstrasse, the route follows the Dammweg to Giswil campsite. The trail leads through the Forstwald forest to the dreaded torrents. The Steinibach is crossed by a ford on the road, where the trail follows the course of the stream on the other side up to Mattacher.
The trail continues uphill to cross the Gerisbach and then descends to Holzmatt. Here it is worth taking a look back over Giswil and the imposing Wetterhorn group. The forest path now leads gently up and down above the Wilerbad and via Giglen to Kirchhofen. With a view of the baroque parish church, the trail descends to the lake, along the banks of the Sarneraa to the village square and back to the station.
