Description
After a stroll through the quaint alleys of Stein am Rhein, you plunge into the Zurich wine region, passing the cozy, flower-decorated half-timbered houses in Stammheim. The idyllic Nussbaumer lakes, small natural paradises, are without outflow, so-called dead ice lakes.
Soon the Ittingen Charterhouse invites you to refresh and rest before crossing the Thur to Frauenfeld, the capital of Thurgau. The route winds up and down through gently rolling landscape, follows the course of the Thur after the abbey town of Wil, and visits the Fürstenland.
At the edge of a bustling industrial, storage, and residential corridor, you sneak from Gossau to St. Gallen. Unexpectedly, you find yourself in the Abbey District and can visit the venerable Abbey Library in felt slippers. The wheels then gently turn downwards to the silvery expanses of Lake Constance.
