Chamois on the alp close to the city

A few steps after the Krauchthal/Post bus stop, a narrow road branches westward from the main road and runs straight along the Chrouchtalbach. After about half a kilometer, turn left, cross the creek and the main road, then go uphill in the forest. Partly over steep wooden steps, partly on a narrow ridge path between blueberry bushes, you quickly gain altitude. Passing an abandoned sandstone quarry where the year 1839 can be seen, you reach the Fluehüsli, where several houses are built into the vertical sandstone walls. Again steep, later only moderately uphill, it continues to the Chlosteralp. Just a few kilometers from the center of the federal capital, you find here a rural idyll reminiscent of a remote mountain area: a beautiful farmyard with fruit trees stretches out in front of the farmhouse; behind it, forested hills and wide grassy areas form a particularly charming landscape. With some luck, you might even spot one of the chamois living in the area. Only the distinctive antenna tower on the Bantiger, which first comes into view here, is an unmistakable witness of modern civilization. On a wide forest trail, you reach the hiking trail junction Mühlestein, then cross the broad ridge of the Bantiger and finally reach the tower at its highest point. The climb to the viewing platform is definitely worth it because of the extensive panoramic view. The descent begins quite steep and leads through the forest to the Chatzestyg. Afterwards, you descend with a beautiful Alpine view to Ferenberg. From there, follow the hiking route towards Deisswil and turn off at Buechholz to Stettlen.
