Description
Route number 3 starts from the Campra Nordic Ski Center, crossing the Campra Plain following the Brenno river.
Then it climbs to Böcc di Scar and continues towards the wide plain of Pian Segno, then arriving at Acquacalda. The welcoming Pro Natura Center offers rooms to stay overnight, a good restaurant, and an InfoPoint.
From here, you cross the pass road and take a slightly steeper path leading to Croce Portera; from here you can admire an exceptional panorama of Acquacalda and the entire surrounding region!
A wide path (cart road) through the meadows gently leads to Dötra where the eponymous hut is located. This last stretch (from Acquacalda to Dötra) is also an educational path called Santéi dr’équa. Finally, you return descending along a path that crosses a dense and fragrant coniferous forest which in winter becomes an equally fascinating winter snowshoe route.
If we want to add a piece of history to this route, we can say that in the final area before reaching Campra, called Bollette, there are remains of a quartz quarry: rock crystal was extracted for various uses already in the Neolithic and probably an intense search took place in the Gallo-Roman period when, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, high-quality craftsmanship flourished.
We can think that the seekers also reached the Lukmanier area, considering that the pass – albeit wild – was already known at that time.
Currently, mineral prospecting is regulated by law.
