Description

Already at the station, a wonderful view opens over the flat terrain between Lake Lauerz and the hill range in front of the two Mythen peaks. Following the Steineraa, we soon enter the Aazopf floodplain landscape and finally reach the place where it flows into Lake Lauerz.

Floodplains are diverse but endangered ecosystems. Around 40 different woody plants grow in the Steiner river floodplain. The constant exchange between high and low water also makes the Aazopf a habitat for many animals. Lake Lauerz is the last lake of the pre-Alps with a naturally fluctuating water level.

Walking through the plain, we pass by the white blossoms of old cherry trees and first encounter the chapel in the floodplain dating from 1691, and then the Grossherrgottskapelle from the same year.

Again and again, we marvel at the blossom splendor in the plain and on the slopes. For once, they take the beautiful view of the two Mythen into the background.

Anyone fascinated by the subject of trees can make a detour to the Tree Figures Cabinet before returning to the starting point. It displays sculptural shapes that the artist Alfons Bürgler found in trees.
