Description

The Blauen and its chracteristic ridgeline are situated just a few kilometers south of Basel. The tour starts in the little village Ettingen which can be reached by Tram or car.

Start climbing the on forest roads which are never too steep. Eventually you´ll get to the top of the ridgeline where you turn west. Shortly after the Blauenpass you´ll find a nice viewpoint with a bench where you can rest and get a glance on Basel and its surrounding.

Follow the trail on the ridge heading west. Mostly easy over many rocks and roots and with occasional up and down it is fun to ride. After "Metzerlenchrüz" a short punchy uphill is the last challenge before the downhill starts. At the picknick table the descent start fast and open, but becomes rougher soon. Some short janky rock sections require momentum and determination. The very last part of the trail becomes steeper but is well rideable for experienced riders. A top downhill!

Head south and climb the trail to Challpass, then follow the gravel roads back up to where the downhill started. Follow the ridge trail in the reverse direcction back to "Metzerlenchrüz" and take the little trail south. Over some loose rocks and steps the trail leads to Bergmattenhof, a small farm restaurant. Refresh yourself with drinks and snacks if you like.

The final climb follows gravel roads back to the top of the Blauen where you follow the ridge trail to the east. Watch for rocks (and hikers) on this fast section. At "Chremer" turn left and follow the trail via the "Fürstenstein" castle ruins back to Ettingen.
