Description

From Amsteg, after a short climb, you ride on the Gotthard mule track past the avalanche protection niches of 'Brisch Laui' to Meitschligen. From the eastern valley flank between Gurtnellen and Wassen, you can very well observe the trains winding their way over bridges, viaducts, and spiral tunnels up the upper Reuss valley. Behind Wattingen, you ride under the canopy of the St. Josef Chapel, which was built in the 18th century. It continues over a magnificent forest path via Neiselental to Göschenen. Along the steep rock walls of the Schöllenen Gorge, you reach the Teufelsbrücke and the Suworow Monument on the historic Gotthard mule track. At the latest here, you have to dismount once to observe the wild Gotthard Reuss, which has carved its way through the tough Gotthard granite over the centuries. After the Urnerloch, the first tunnel in the Alps, you reach the Urserntal and the turning point Andermatt. The return trip leads over the mountain road to the village of Gurtnellen. Now follows an attractive descent over field paths to Meitschligen, then you ride back to Amsteg on the same path as the outward journey.
