Description
At Grünenmatt station, cross the railway crossing and head towards Trachselwald. A side road leads directly to the village entrance. Worth seeing is the intact village image with church (1686), parsonage (1753), and inn Tanne with sign from 1757. The castle on the distinctive castle hill is the only remaining castle in the Emmental south of Burgdorf. The bergfried dates from the 12th century. At the castle hill, the little road crosses the wooded slope to the farms on the Haretegg, which are framed by beautiful lindens. Now begins the magnificent ridge hike over Schönentüel–Steiweid–Sängge to Salbüelegg (point 945) and to the fork point 954, during which you alternately enjoy wonderful views into the forest-enclosed ravines, the rolling hills of the Emmental, the Jura, or the Alps. High above Churzenei and Liechtgut ravines, the path turns over Sänggeberg towards Sparenegg. Nearby is Zuguet, the birthplace of Simon Gfeller. Soon the buildings of Lüderenalp become visible. The highest point of the hike, Ober Rafrüti, again offers a breathtaking panoramic view. With Tällihüttli, Fluehüsli, Rotebüelegg, and Geilisguetegg, further prominent points lie on the way, before you reach the valley floor at Zollbrück through the picturesque hamlet of Ried.
