Description
The hike follows the motto: work first, enjoyment comes afterwards. We start warming up slowly at the western end of Arnisee. The steepest ascent of the entire day comes first. We slowly wind our way up through the Grünenwald. We are grateful for the shady forest. In the first 2.4 kilometers, we overcome more than 500 meters of altitude. Now we are above the tree line and hike through a moor to the Sunniggrathütte. There we take our first break.
It is not far to the Sunniggrätli. We enjoy the great view out over the Urner Reusstal, Lake Uri, and the Mythen. We hike back over the Sunniggrätli and then turn right. The path passes above the hut. After a few minutes, we turn northwest. We now cross a long slope that extends below Grossgander, Ruchälplistock, and Jakobiger. The three mountains tower above us. After more than halfway along the route, we reach the Leutschachhütte. Here we can rest. Those who are brave can take a swim in the cold Obersee.
Now over 5 kilometers of descent await us. We watch the slopes. Chamois are grazing everywhere. In the Leutschachtal at the Leutschachbach, we rest once more. We lie down in the meadow and enjoy the wonderful alpine air once again. At Hinterarni, we are back in civilization. The first holiday homes show us the lake is not far. We bathe our feet in the lake. Finally, we stop at a guesthouse and wait for the cable car that will take us down to the hustle and bustle of everyday life in a few minutes.
