Description

On this varied route, you will encounter many cultural, historical, and natural highlights. From “Papa Moll-Land,” which makes the hearts of little ones beat faster in droves, you pass by wooden drilling towers in the Rietheimer Moos. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Swiss Soda Factory mined salt here; salt production was discontinued in the 1960s. Today, the river is at the centre: eleven power plants control the High Rhine between Schaffhausen and Basel. Yet it powerfully flows past dreamy riverside paths, straight asparagus fields, half-timbered houses, and Roman ruins. In Koblenz, it also takes in the Aare, which carries significantly more water than the Rhine until the confluence of the two giants. It is also lively at the customs station in Koblenz. Briefly sniff the Giriz nature reserve, then continue on a very beautiful section towards Leibstadt. In Full, the rooster crows proudly above farmhouses and the white nuclear power plant smoke, which drifts slowly into the sky. Quietly and enjoyably, you ride through the beautiful floodplain landscape near Schwaderloch, and soon you reach Laufenburg. Surrounded by wooded riverside heights, beautifully situated in a river bend – definitely one of the most beautiful little towns on the High Rhine. Between Kaisten and Stein, you will ride through the Hard past the Kies and Beton AG Holcim. The gravel brilliantly reflects in the sunshine. In Wallbach, small rubber boats play on the Rhine. Riverbank care is given great importance, and the Swiss are connected with the Germans from Wallbach by ferry and corresponding ferry cable. Before Möhlin, fine fish can be eaten on certain days at the “Chräbis” fishing guild, fillets and whole pikes. Hazel and blackberry bushes also delight the cycling hiking heart, as does the ride through refreshing forest sections between Wallbach and Möhlin. Only the southern wall remains of the Roman watchtower Möhlin-Untere Wehren. And finally, Rheinfelden, the oldest Zähringen town in Switzerland, welcomes you with its large city park, the charming medieval town centre – and of course the Feldschlösschen Castle overflowing with hops and malt, whose beer has belonged to the Danish Carlsberg brewery group since the year 2000.
