Description

No very early start is necessary for this winter hike: because of the sunshine, you should only set out from Männlichen around 11 a.m. in December and January. You leave its gondola station heading south-southeast with a view of the impressive north face of the Eiger, the Mönch, and the Jungfrau. Unlike in summer, the trail leads downhill along the slope in the cold season, sometimes quite steeply. You have to cross several ski slopes and at the same time keep an eye on the trail markings. Depending on the snow conditions, a somewhat tricky slope is encountered towards the end of the ski area. Poles can be helpful when crossing the slope here. Then follows the quietest section. Suddenly, an old larch forest appears that invites you to dream and take a break. Then you enter the next ski area at Bustiglen. Here the preliminary lowest point of the hike is reached. Now the winter trail steadily climbs up to Kleine Scheidegg with the impressive Hotel Bellevue des Alpes, a grand hotel with historic furnishings. The trio of peaks Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau seem within reach here. From now on, the winter trail gently descends southwest. Now mutual consideration is even more important because the trail is shared with sledders. Occasionally, families on skis can also be encountered. However, due to the gentle gradient, no one moves fast enough to cause collisions. After just over two and a half hours, you reach Wengernalp. On the sunny terrace of the Hotel Jungfrau Wengernalp, you can enjoy your time until the departure of the Wengernalp Railway.
