Description
From Dallenwil station, you can reach the Dallenwil-Wiesenberg aerial cableway via Parkweg and Stettlistrasse. The small and musical hamlet of Wiesenberg is accessible by the small cable car. The Wiesenberg Yodel Club landed the biggest Swiss hit of 2009 with "Das Feyr vo dr Sehnsucht."
First, follow Wiesenbergstrasse, then a hiking trail leads over meadows and past farms to the Ächerlipass. This is a historically significant connecting pass between the cantons of Nidwalden and Obwalden. According to legend, in 1798 an Obwalden resident showed the Napoleonic troops the way over the Ächerli to Nidwalden. This caused bad blood between the two cantons well into the 20th century. Near Ober Holzwang, a detour to the Barbara Chapel is worthwhile. Over the pass height, you reach the Heimetli Chienern with a tavern and alpine cheesery. Further along a field path, within 10 minutes you reach the Lochhütte alpine cheesery. This is managed by the Odermatt family during summer. In the small shop next to the alpine hut, you can buy alpine cheese, round Mutschli, and the in-house creation "edelWeyss Chäs" (Edelweiss cheese). After 800 meters, you reach the Niederberger family cheesery. The sign "Alpine cheese and fried cheese for sale" invites every cheese lover for a stopover. On the way back down to Wirzweli, you can make a stop at the last cheesery. Huismatt is run by the Zumbühl family and operates year-round. In their own farm shop and event venue "Gade," you can immediately taste the cheese from nearby. On request, the family organizes a farm tour through the cheesery and the barn. After 30 minutes of walking, you reach the village of Wirzweli, also known as Hexenberg. You return to Dallenwil by the Wirzweli aerial cableway.
