Description
The district of Wasseramt includes former industrial sites as well as more rural communities. The name Wasseramt is not surprising. Although the hike does not pass any impressive bodies of water, the district’s rural hilly landscape is indeed shaped by the theme of water. Walkers encounter the Emme River on this route, along with its parallel groundwater streams, as well as the largest lake in Solothurn – the idyllic Burgäschisee. From the baroque town of Solothurn, you hike over the Bleichenberg, on which stands the charming little castle, through the Wasseramt shaped by agriculture and water management. Along the way, you pass witnesses from old times, namely the Emme canal, as well as dam and control weirs. The highlight is certainly the idyllic Burgäschisee, which invites you to swim in summer. Those who wish can follow a little further from the Burgäschisee along the Kraftort trail, which leads to impressive places considered as power spots, such as the Marienchapel Steinhof, the late Gothic Martinskirche in Seeberg, and the “Grosse Flue”, the third largest erratic boulder in Switzerland.
