Description
The starting point of the hike is the Höhenweg station, which is easily reached with the Parsennbahn. After that, the path leads to Büschalp, which got its name from its former owner, a member of the Büsch family. The name means "shaggy little fir". The next alp is Schatzalp, where over 1,300 plant species from all over the world can be admired in the Alpinum Schatzalp. The former sanatorium has been run as a hotel for 70 years. The bestselling author Thomas Mann was inspired at this place for his book "The Magic Mountain." The path continues to Podestatenalp. This alp once belonged to a "podesta," a bailiff, equivalent to today’s mayor. Then it goes past various small alps, including Stafelalp, where the famous German painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner stayed during the summer months of 1917/18. The path goes past original Walser farms over pastures and meadows until finally the descent to Glaris begins.
