Description
The starting point of the Poschiavino trail is the fashionable bike mecca of Livigno. The high altitude path leads over the «Forcola di Livigno» to the «Forcola di Val Minur» and the «Motta Bianca» and on to «Ospizio Bernina». Characteristic for this part of the fully accessible and well maintained trails is the barrenness of the rocks and gravel slopes, which is reminiscent of a moonscape.
The trail starts at the Bernina Pass and leads over the old pass road leading down to a wonderful plateau and on to the foot of «I Gessi», where the Poschiavino river has its source. With the barren limestone mountains at your back, follow the old mule trails which hug the stream through the «Val Laguné» valley with its lovely alpine meadows to the entrance of the «Val da Camp» valley. From Pozzolascio take the Via delle Scali, the original pathway to the pass, down to the hamlet of Angeli Custodi where you come back to the course of the Poschiavino. Past lush meadows and fields, the path leads on to the bottom of the valley and the main town of Poschiavo, which will bewitch you with its southern charm.
