Description
Those venturing to the very end of the wintry, secluded Safien Valley will quickly be surrounded by a relaxing calm. The wide valley floor is framed by impressive mountains such as the Wisshorn, Schwarz- and Gelbhorn. At times, it feels like being in an amphitheater. The cross-country ski trail starts in Thalkirch and winds along the valley floor and through a small pine forest which also offers shelter for roe deer and black grouse.
The striking compensation basin of the Zervreila power plants appears somewhat alien in this otherwise idyllic landscape. Along the way, you repeatedly enjoy beautiful views of the Walser scattered settlements typical for the Safien Valley. The view extends to the Camaner huts, which like a string of pearls create contrasting spots in the snow.
At the exhibition stable Turra of the Safier Ställe association, you can learn interesting facts about the settlement of the Safien Valley and the typical wooden buildings and stables of the valley. You can even get involved yourself and try laying shingles on a roof.
