Day trip ideas
Wandering: From the summit of Monte San Salvatore, offering stunning 360° views, descend towards Carona and the Parco San Grato. Two route options: a shorter one to the Ongero Sanctuary, and a longer hike to Alpe Vicania and the Tenuta Castello di Morcote estate. Both end in Morcote – one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland.
Gandria: From Lugano, take a boat to the picturesque village of Gandria, offering charming views over Lake Lugano. After lunch by the water, walk back along the scenic "Olive Trail" to Castagnola. In summer, a stop at Lido San Domenico is highly recommended.
Gold mine in Sessa: From Ponte Tresa, visit the historic gold mine in Sessa, then head to Novaggio to explore the “Sentiero delle Meraviglie” – a trail rich in nature, tranquillity and history. Along the way, you’ll come across the Maglio del Malcantone, an old forge showcasing traditional ironworking.
