Prepare your journey

We will be happy to help you plan your journey:

  • You can get information at the rail travel centre at the stations.

  • Do you need help getting on and off the train? Then call the SBB Call Center Handicap for travel information: 0800 007 102, daily from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm, the call is free of charge.

  • You can also find all the information you need for barrier-free travel by train in the

    SBB timetable.

SBB online timetable

If you are in a wheelchair, the online timetable shows you whether your train journey is barrier-free. This means you can travel without assistance.

  • You open the website

  • You enter your journey (from/to) in the timetable and the date of travel with the departure or arrival time.

  • On the right, where you enter the time of travel, you select the ‘Settings’ slide control

  • Set the slider to the right under ‘Barrier-free connection’.

  • There you can select whether you only want information about barrier-free travel, all wheelchair-accessible connections (including those with advance reservation) or only those connections where you can board with your wheelchair without assistance.

  • Click on ‘Apply’ and all possible connections will be displayed.

At the station

  • At the station ticket office. You can also reserve seats for international journeys at the station.

Rail Service

Rail Service telephone number: 0848 44 66 88. Open 24 hours. The call costs CHF 0.08 per minute in Switzerland. Rail Service can help you:

  • Ordering tickets.

  • Reserving seats.

  • Timetable questions.

You pay by credit card or on receipt. Tickets are sent to your home address. Or you can pick them up at the station ticket office.

Travel concessions

Disabled person's travel card: If you have a permanent disability and need someone to accompany you when you travel, With the companion travelcard (ID card for passengers with a disability), you can take a companion with you free of charge. You can find more information about the companion travelcard and how to order it at: www.sbb.ch. Concessionary General Abonnement (GA):

  • If you receive a pension from the Federal Disability Insurance.

  • If you receive a helplessness allowance.

  • If you receive benefits for a guide dog.

  • If you need a wheelchair and have a doctor's certificate to prove it.

You need help getting on and off the train

Reserve assistance by calling the SBB Call Center Handicap. You can contact the SBB Call Center Handicap directly via the contact form on the SBB website. Telephone number: 0800 007 102. Daily from 6 am to 10 pm. The call is free of charge. From abroad, call: +41 800 007 102. The call costs.

You can get help on all express trains and at the main railway stations. A main railway station is equipped with a mobile lift to help you get on and off the train.

For the reservation we need:

  • First name and surname

  • Telephone number

  • Type of disability – for example, ‘In a wheelchair with motor’

  • Date and destination

  • Desired departure time or arrival time of the trip

  • For trips abroad, the number of your reservation

Meeting point:

  • The meeting point is 10 minutes in advance. At the Mobil-Lift. The Mobil-Lift is a yellow lifting platform.

  • A mobility assistant will help you at the station. Or the train staff.

  • The mobility assistants will not help you with your luggage. You are responsible for your own luggage.

  • You travel the same route regularly. Apply to the Call Center Handicap for a standing order.
