Culinary Tour
Heading south with Nico and Noah on the Treno Gottardo
When two passionate foodies set off on a journey: Switzerland Tourism is sending Nico Franzoni and Noah Bachofen on a journey of discovery across the country. From French-speaking Switzerland to Ticino, they will visit extraordinary places and meet people who share a deep love of food. On their culinary mission, the pair will explore what gives each region its distinctive character and flavour.
Heading for a treat on the Treno Gottardo
On their way south, the pair board the Treno Gottardo – and the culinary experience begins right there in their compartment. They’ve simply ordered their regional Ticino platter in advance directly from SOB, so it’s delivered fresh to the train. As the train winds its way through the spectacular spiral tunnels, there’s no shortage of entertainment either: whilst enjoying witty banter with the customer attendant, they feast, laugh and, of course, snap the perfect selfie with the famous church in Wassen at just the right moment.
Highlights along the route
Lake Lucerne and Axenstrasse: Picture-perfect postcard views right at the start of the journey.
Church of Wassen: The route's famous cult highlight.
Historic Gotthard Summit Tunnel: The alpine heartpiece from 1882. After 15 kilometres of darkness, you roll straight into Ticino.
Biaschina Loop Tunnels: Spectacular loops and Swiss engineering on the way down to the valley.
Castles of Bellinzona: Three medieval fortresses (UNESCO World Heritage) towering majestically over the city.
Locarno and Lake Maggiore: Palm trees, Mediterranean flair, and the perfect backdrop for the grand finale.
A wealth of experiences
Discover the scenic and cultural diversity along the historic Gotthard Panorama Route: hop off the train, explore special places between the north and the south – and plan your next journey of discovery with Treno Gottardo.
