Viamala gorge
Description
Carved into the solid rock thousands of years ago by glacial ice and the waters of the Hinterrhein, the Viamala Gorge still bears living traces of a fascinating history.
From the visitor centre, 359 steps lead down into the depths of the gorge. Whirlpools, smooth rock faces up to 300 m high and the colours of the water leave a strong impression of natural beauty. Spectacular bridge constructions - such as the Wildener Bridge from 1739 and the new Conzett bridges ‘Pùnts da tgavorgias’ - offer an insight into the craft of bridge builders past and present.
