Soglio, pure poetry
Description
The old mountain village of Soglio has many faces. At its heart are the mansions of the von Salis family. The oldest dates back to the 14th century and today houses the B&B Pension Piazza. The «younger» ones still date from the 17th/18th century, including Casa Mezzo (1696) and Casa Battista (1701), which has been an inn since 1876 and still serves guests under the name Palazzo Salis. Many other houses and stables huddle together in Soglio like in a bird's nest.
Soglio is located on the sunny terrace of the Bergell. The warmth allows for an amazing flora, well protected from fresh breezes by old stone walls. Below, the chestnut groves begin - a plant that was brought to Val Bregaglia by the Romans and cultivated there. However, these airy heights are almost a little too rough for them. Soglio is climatically on a threshold (and perhaps also on the «threshold to paradise», as the painter Giovanni Segantini once said).
Opening Hours
Soglio can be visited without restrictions all year round. A visit during the summer and autumn months is recommended.
