Siglistorf viewpoint

Description

Spalteflue: In very early ice ages, it may have been 500,000 or even a million years since then, the hills in this area were covered with a layer of gravel many metres thick. Over the course of this long period of time, these were solidified by water penetration to form a solid conglomerate - a kind of natural "concrete". In Switzerland, this rock is also known as "Nagelfluh". When the later glaciers excavated the valleys, they left behind steep valley slopes that continue to slide down to the present day. The formations of the "Spalteflue" are precisely these broken rocks, and just 250 metres south of this location is the legendary "Spalteflue". At its foot there are several tapped springs which, together with many others in the Butal region, feed an extensive water supply system. Not only Siglistorf benefits from this, but also communities on the other side of the hill, such as Schneisingen.
