Schwarzenburg Castle

Description

The picturesque Schwarzenburg Castle was built in the 16th century to replace Grasburg Castle, which had become too expensive. The castle served as the home of the bailiff and later the governor. Court ladies, knights and counts celebrated ceremonies and parties in the great hall, and the Schwarzenburg Castle Foundation remains true to this tradition. Today, the castle's rooms can be used for cultural events such as readings, concerts and celebrations, as well as for civil weddings.

The castle is also open to the public on selected days of the year. Those interested in history can see the old rooms with their own eyes and imagine the lavish celebrations and strenuous political discussions that took place here.

A visit to the "Tätschhüttli" (Tätschdachhaus), one of the last of its kind, is particularly worthwhile. Tätschhüttli houses are valuable cultural artefacts from the Schwarzenburg region and the pre-Alpine areas.
