Monastery St. Urban

Description

The Cistercian monastery was founded in 1194/95. In 1848, the Grand Council of the Canton of Lucerne abolished the monastery. The proceeds from the sale were used to pay off debts from the Sonderbund War. In 1870, the canton bought back the monastery complex and established the Cantonal Psychiatric Clinic.

Today, concerts of all kinds take place in the parish church of St. Urban. The banqueting hall can be hired for concerts, lectures, meetings and gala dinners. Guided tours through the church and the monastery give you exciting insights into the former monastic life and 800 years of history. And in the magnificent park you can always marvel at other modern sculptures. Certain parts of the grounds are still used today by the Cantonal Psychiatric Hospital.
