Grotto Eremo San Nicolao

About 5 km from Mendrisio, going up towards Monte Generoso, you reach this ancient grotto which is an integral part of the Eremo di San Nicolao. The main characteristic of this grotto is that it is located on a cliff about 300 m above Mendrisio. Its unmissable view sweeps over the whole of Mendrisiotto and the Alpine panorama extends as far as the Monte Rosa mountain range.

The grotto has two internal rooms and a terrace. The terrace has 50 seats and divides the grotto from the little church dedicated to S. Nicolao. The hall on the ground floor can accommodate up to 24 people, while the one on the upper floor has only 16 seats, but has a memorable view of the Mendrisiotto and the Alps.
