Alpine roses

Description

It is still unclear where the Schneisinger Alpenrosen originated. There are various versions in circulation: It is possible that the seeds were transported from the Linth glacier to Studenland during the Ice Age. However, it is also conceivable that wind or birds transported the alpine rose seeds to the lowlands.

Legend has it that two siblings fled from the canton of Nidwalden due to a famine and were carrying a rucksack with a handful of their native soil. On the hill near Schneisingen, they laid their exhausted heads on the rucksack, fell asleep and never woke up. Since then - so the legend goes - alpine roses have bloomed at this spot, the seeds of which happened to be in the home soil in the rucksack of the two children.

Opening Hours

The alpine roses can be visited all year round, but they are at their most beautiful in the summer months.
