Lake of Constance, Rhinefall, Basel

The impressions you get on this tour fit together like a puzzle: romantic riverside paths, straight as an arrow asparagus fields, cute timbered houses, endless power poles, stoic fishermen, sunburnt salt towers, unsimilar-similar German-Swiss bridge cities and exciting roman ruins. In the end, you ride through busy agglomeration past huge production halls oft the chemical industry and cargoships into the tripoint around Basel.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Rorschach|Rorschach surroundings – Konstanz

Luggage drop-off in Rorschach. The Lake of Constance (Bodensee): the soul of Europe. The area around the shimmering silver-green «Swabian sea» is an ancient cultural landscape. Despite its lively lakeside scene, Thurgau remains a serene slice of countryside with castles and extensive orchards. Details: Details: approx. 37 km, ↑ 65 m ↓ 60 m

Day 2: Konstanz – Schaffhausen

The lovely landscape along the long ribbon of the Untersee appealed to Napoleon, the richly-decorated town of Stein am Rhein attracts thousands of visitors every year, as does Europe’s mightiest waterfall, the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen. Details: approx. 50 km, ↑ 290 m ↓ 300 m

Day 3: Schaffhausen – Bad Zurzach

The Hochrhein has made its bed between Schwarzwald and the Jura, at times wide and unhurried, at others narrow and wild. Attractive floodplains and historic little villages add cultural enjoyment to this stage. Details: approx. 52 km, ↑ 485 m ↓ 530 m

Day 4: Bad Zurzach – Rheinfelden

Starting in the Bad Zurzach wellness oasis, the stage leads to Koblenz, the historic old town with 4 bridges close to the Klingnau reservoir. The Rheinfelden destination – Switzerland's oldest “Zähringer” town – follows soon after the picturesque little town of Laufenburg Details: approx. 54 km, ↑ 85 m ↓ 160 m

Day 5: Rheinfelden – Basel | Departure or extension

Cycle where the ancient Romans lived and enjoyed their games: Augusta Raurica with its silver treasure. The agglomeration is already pulsating, the asphalt sweating, commuters groaning; Basel beckons with hustle, bustle and cultural attractions. After arrival in Basel luggage retrieval and departure. Details: approx. 24 km, ↑ 80 m ↓ 90 m

The route mainly follows the shore of the Rhine and Lake of Constance – between Schaffhausen and Basel there are no noteworthy climbs.

Luggage drop-off on arrival day by 10:00 a.m. at Rorschach train station: If this is not possible, we recommend an additional night at the starting point.

Arrival/Departure

Arrival by public transport to Rorschach: . If you arrive directly, hand in your luggage at the luggage counter by 10:00 a.m. at the latest.

Departure by public transport from Bâle: In case of direct departure, luggage must be returned to the luggage counter by 5:00 p.m. at the latest.

Arrival by train

Leave the car at home! For every bike, biking or hiking tour in Switzerland, you will receive an SBB coupon per participant, which you can use to deduct CHF 10.- from the ticket price for traveling by train. The reduction can be obtained in the SBB online store or in the SBB app.

On many trips, we use the luggage counters at the stations at the beginning and at the end to hand over the suitcases. You can conveniently combine this right away when you arrive by train. If you are a GA owner, you can provide this information when booking. We will credit you the amount on the invoice. If you don't need the coupon for the trip itself, you can use it during the year. Unfortunately, a retroactive refund is not possible for administrative reasons.
