OLMA is the Swiss trade fair for agriculture and dairy farming in St. Gallen, which has been held annually since 1943. The term OLMA comes from Ostschweizerische land milchwirtschaftliche Ausstellung - as the fair used to be called.
The fair always takes place in the fall at the OLMA exhibition grounds in St. Gallen and lasts eleven days. Attractions include the ceremonial parade of the host canton on Saturday through the city center from the train station to the exhibition grounds, a funfair and, in general, the consumption of OLMA bratwurst, a St. Gallen specialty. Visitors to the fair can also look forward to interesting special shows, an impressive animal exhibition and an entertaining supporting program. Every year, a different canton of Switzerland is the guest of honor and can present itself to the public during the parade and the fair.
OLMA is by far the largest public fair in Switzerland. The tasting halls 4 and 5, where exhibitors offer wine and beer for tasting and consumption, are very well known. All the major breweries and many wine merchants from all over Switzerland are represented.
