Museo Comunale d'Arte Moderna Ascona
Description
20% discount on admission to the museum
The Museo Comunale d'Arte Moderna in Ascona and the Museo Castello San Materno are open from April and throughout the year. The two museums exhibit works of contemporary art that were collected by private donors and are now open to the public.
Multifaceted exhibition
The municipal collection was established in 1922, when numerous artists living in Ascona decided to donate one of their works as the basis for the municipal museum. Among the most important works are Jawlensky's Girl's Head, Cuno Amiet's Fruit Harvest and Paul Klee's The Red House, which were donated by the Russian painter Marianne Werefkin together with five of her own works. But in particular, the museum houses the Marianne Werefkin Foundation, which, with around 90 paintings, 170 sketchbooks and numerous drawings and written documents, is by far the most important collection of this extraordinary artist, an important figure of the avant-garde who was associated with the Blauer Reiter. The museum also houses the Richard and Uli Seewald Foundation, which brings together the works of the artist Richard Seewals - professor at the Munich Academy and late member of the Great Bear - as well as works from his private collection, including a particularly beautiful Utrillo, a Klee, a magnificent drawing by Franz Marc and a watercolor drawing by Kubin.
With the Treno Gottardo Hit you receive a 20% discount on admission to the museum.
